At Prelude we do things differently. We don't follow the patterns of traditional education systems. Our learning
experiences are engineered from first principles and, therefore, a little weird.
It's natural to have questions.
If this document doesn't answer your questions, please feel free to contact us. Seriously, don't be shy! We love questions!
Our workshops have extended hours and damn fine content for exactly this reason. Join when you are able and you will get access to everything you need to get started.
eg: If a workshop runs from 09:00 to 23:00 GMT+2 and you are at GMT-5 then the workshop would run from 02:00 to 16:00 your time. So you would be able to join in at a sensible time (maybe 08:00). This would give you plenty of time to get through the work.
eg: If the workshop ends at 23:00 GMT+2, and you're timezone is GMT-8 then the workshop would end at 13:00 for you. This DOES NOT mean you will lose access to the content at 13:00, it just means your instructor will be taking a rest. You would be welcome to continue working and leaving messages. Any questions you leave will be answered when the instructor is back in action.
No, this is intentional.
The workshops are fully asynchronous - nobody is forced to keep up with the group if they need a bit more time on things. And nobody is forced to slow down if they are able to move ahead.
Couple that with the fact that folks typically join in from different time zones and have different home situations and what you get is a bunch of participants needing different things at different times.
The number of participants an instructor can support is limited by their ability to context switch and keep track of people, and their ability to grasp the material covered in the workshops. It is not necessary for every workshop participant to be go through the same exercises, or have the same goals.
If there are multiple workshops scheduled at the same time this means:
Some of the best things in life are a little weird...
But in all seriousness, please watch this talk. It will give you an idea of why things work the way they do.
The TLDR is that traditional educations fall short in many ways and we can do better by focusing on how people actually learn, and by setting up feedback mechanisms for teachers.
Before the workshop kicks off, you will be be sent an email with all the joining info.
The actual workshop looks like this:
- When you get started you get access to a whole lot of workshop materials, including recordings where everything is explained. Everything pre-recorded so people can get started when they want.
- Once you have gone through the introductory material, you can have a call with your instructor to make sure you are feeling good and you know how to proceed.
- After that the workshop is divided up into a number of sections. There is a separate chat channel per section so you can post questions and see what other folks have said. You'll be able to jump on a video call or screen-share at any time if you need it.
- There will also be occasional check-in group meets scheduled throughout the day. These are just to bring the participants together and get people nerding out together a bit. These are not compulsory, but it's recommended. A lot of participants end up staying in touch after the event.
Other than that, there are differences per workshop. All workshops are very hands on and practical. And all workshops get a lot of expert support.
Yes, of course!
There are many reasons that you might want to do this.
If you feel that you just need one more day and don't want to buy a ticket for a 2 day workshop, please get in touch and we can make a plan!
You don't need to wait for a workshop to be scheduled, we do group bookings and group discounts. Please get in touch if you need something custom!
